Through the Departure/Aperture Series, CraftAtlantic commissions leading American contemporary photographers to cast an American city.
CraftAtlantic commissioned NY based artist Gina LeVay a series shot in NYC in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The work confronts the magnitude of the Port of New York to the true odysseys undertaken by crews from around the world to reach it.
Gina Levay’s work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in the US and Europe, including at the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Center of Fine Art Photography, Hous Projects NYC. Her work is regularly featured in New York Magazine and Vanity Fair.
Her award-winning work, the Sandhog Project, featuring the tight community of tunnel builders under New York City, was exhibited in a photo and video installation at New York’s Grand Central terminal and most recently featured in Vanity Fair in October 2013.
Gina LeVay is an alumnus and current staff member of the Eddie Adams Workshop, as well as an adjunct professor of photography at The Fashion Institute of Technology.
The full extent of the commission is available exclusively through CraftAtlantic.
